The Requirements of Working to a Brief

Brief
A brief is a guideline that lets you make a project for a client , being a person or a company. A brief is handed to you when you are chosen for the job or know as commissioned.
When you are commissioned it means you are called to do a job to someones liking on how they want the job done not how you want to design it. This can be from a television episode to a radio advert.

Tender means that people can invest money to submit there shares or securities to a takeover offer. A different way you can respond to a brief is by entering a competitions, The rules set by the competition brief are a lot less strict meaning that the competitors can be more creative.

Reading a brief
Above this the judging criteria for the E4 competition, when I made my channel four E sting I had to follow these guidelines, It was very easy as you could use anything to make it with, being Lego or paper or even an computer animated. I went for Lego because the bits are easy to move and adding Plasticine to it was easy as it didn't stick to the Lego.

Negotiating a Brief
The amount of room I had to work with was really big, I had more then enough room to plan out my idea because of how much room E4 was giving me. It couldn't be too rude , explicit or violent. You could use anything to make it with, there was no restrictions on that, You could use Paper, Clay, Computer Animation or even Lego. I just had to consider the rules above.

When I was working on the E-Sting I had more then enough room to make my E sting, The only thing I couldn't do to the video was make it too explicit, but its alright because I didn't have any violence or explicit content in my video at all. My video was just a guy going to a vending machine As seen below.

I had some constraints during my E sting , the first problem was copyright , the only reason I had copyright against me was because I tried to use a image of Google images, In the end I bypassed the copyright by using my own photograph instead of one from online.
The other constraint I had was Finance , the only reason finance was a problem is because when I was building the vending machine is that I didn't have all the parts to make it so we had to order some online and had to wait for the parts to arrive,

I did not make any amendments to my final product as I did not realize that the top of the vending machine would show people moving around in the background and how much I actually moved the vending machine during filming the video.

The reason there might be amendments to a budget is because I ordered the parts online and had to wait on them before I could finish making the complete machine.

Opportunities

Someone might respond to a brief because it would help them out with producing something they want to make or even just to win a contest ,hoping to be contacted because they won a contest.

The opportunities I had when I was making my video was that I needed to mix Lego with Plasticine without them sticking together. I would had also made sure next time that I film it against a wall so that you cannot see people moving in the background as the animation is going on. The last thing I would develop on is how jumpy it is.

The amount of new skills I learnt during the animation process was a lot, I had learnt a vary of things from making models with tubes to putting in a picture as the background on Premiere pro. I also learnt how to Chroma key the background so it looked like it was zoomed into the keypad when it was just a few red bricks with a red background. Lastly the best skill I learnt was making it run smoothly even though it was all still photographs, I like the fact that I can turn pictures into a ten second animation.

I did have to multitask during the project because I had to move the animation while taking photo's other then that I didn't have to multitask at any other point.

The contribution I made to the project brief is that I bought in my own Lego as I didn't have enough to fully create the vending machine, Other then that any other contributions were made by the college as I used some Lego they had as-well as one of the camera's to take the photograph for the background.

  1. Sam,

The bits on here that you have a good understanding of are clear and fine but some sections are a little bizarre (you really do talk about steaks when discussing tenders?!)

If you had attempted this when it was fresh in your mind before xmas, you would have been able to do a bit more. However, you have done enough to meet pass criteria.
