Editing is where people string a lot of shots together and making them sequences.
When people use to edit, they had film reels and the term we use now when we use digital editing is Cut, we call it cut. When filming before digital editing was around the editors had to physically cut the film at certain points which is why it is called a cut.
There are various types of edit:
Cuts are used to put paces or two good shots together to create a sequence.
Dissolves are used to transition one image to another. Dissolving is also used to look as if you are seeing a
memory or a flashback.
Fades are used to show that time has passed, sometimes when a fade shows from midday to evening it will fade while the other scene appears.
Wipes are used to change from one scene to another that is far away from the current scene.
My Sequence
In this sequence there is no main protagonist to look for as there is no good or bad side in this cut scene. There are eight 'Champions' to choose from so pick whatever side you want. In the first part the fight between Twisted fate and Fiddlesticks go from 0:00 to 1:03. next is the fight between Ryze and Nocturne, there fight goes from 1:04 to 1:58. The last fight between Katarina and Garren, Tryndamere and Annie go from 2:00 to 4:18.
At the time 0:48 to 0:54 you will see the 180 degrees rule between the two characters Twisted fate (Left) and fiddlesticks (Right ). This technique is used to show unseen movement around or behind the character and it is important for the narrations of battle scene. The 180 degrees rule help the viewer understand where the character on screen is looking or what they are looking at. In this extract you can see Twisted fate is on the left and Fiddlesticks is on the left.
At the time 2:30 you have the character Katarina looking up for an eye-line match. This technique is used to show up what the character is looking at or that the next scene will cut to what the character has been looking at. It help the audience understand that she is expecting something or can see something that we cannot. In this extract you can see Katarina looking up and a sword coming down.
At 1:36 there is a match on action because in one shot Nocturne is lifting his weapon up and dropping it when the camera is in a different angle. This technique is used to carry on an action to the next shot that the character (Protagonist) was starting and continues it in the next scene. In this extract you can see Nocturne starting to slash and in the next scene slashing at Ryze.
The next shots I will show don't need times but they are Establishing Shots so they let us know what kind of area we are in and to remind us when are entranced by the fighting to tell us that we are in a isolated place secure from any other battles. In this extract you can see the surrounding area is isolated so nobody can interrupt the fighting.
There are only cuts in this whole sequence but there are flash cuts and just quick cuts. The flash cut is when Twisted Fate is against Fiddlesticks and just as their fight begins a white/yellow flash sends us to the battle of Nocturne and Ryze .
The final shot I will explain the Point of view. This technique is used so we can see what the character sees. It helps the audience understand how the character feels by making them look through there eyes. In this extract you can see through Ryze's eyes as he runs from Nocturne. A point of view shot is how the audience connect with the protagonist. (It is also done by close ups and reaction shots)
Sam,
ReplyDeleteThere are some really good bits in this but it is largely incomplete; there is nothing on identification with the protagonist and montage, cross cutting etc are missing too.
This needs to be finished ASAP please.

Now enough for a pass.
