Researching and Planning a music video
Here is the song I have decided to do for my music video
"Someone Like You"
Below are pictures of the annotated script.
The Content that Adele puts into her videos is mostly videos about breaking up with a boy and then singing about how she is getting over them.
The Imagery that Adele shows in her videos that they are black and white
Research on my chosen song artist , The costumes which Adele uses in her videos are mostly dark colored dresses, In rolling in the Deep She is in a black dress with black heels. Adele doesn't wear loads of makeup, she only wears simple eyeliner nothing to harsh or anything that covers her entire face. The location of her music videos are always inside buildings or walking along the street. Adele's songs only have one narrative that I can pick up on and that is all of her songs are relating how her relationships have gone or how her boyfriends have broken up wit her.

Different styles and conventions
In concert
There are a lot of music videos that show the band playing all the instruments in one place as well as a small narrative story for an example here is Survivor , Eye of the tiger , They start off in the streets and eventually all join up and go into an apartment to play the song.
Narrative.
Music videos that have narrative which means that the music video matches the lyrics. For example Fall Out Boy, Where Did The Party Go is a good example because he has been hypnotized to fight his friends/ band but he keeps switching between liking them and completely hating them.
After narrative, the next type of music video will be surreal, surreal music videos are unconventional and have no connection to the lyrics at all. A good example is talk dirty to me by Jason Derulo becuase the song is about how girl talk dirty but in the video not a single girl talks to him, all it is, is girls dancing and him singing to different girls.
Impressionist music videos are the next on my list to give an example of, and for my example I will choose Clint Eastwood, Gorilla's, The reason I have chosen this music video is becuase Impressionist music videos is a great way for the director to choose what feelings the character has and can show them in unique ways.
The pictures that Gorilla's use to express their characters by different expressions throughout the video, They are below.
This picture on the left is Angry.
In this picture to the right , the expression is creepy.
In this photo on the left side, this image is surprised.
Next on the list is Intertextuality, (Synergy, Allusion, and parody)Being a fan or many parody songs and loving the covers of different songs from bands I like . Lets start with Synergy.
Synergy likes to use parts of a movie in their clips but you could always use a Disney movie that has signing in it, for example I will be using Friend Like Me from Aladdin.
Next up is Allusion, Allusion in music videos are where they reference people form history or from a good style of music and they are honoring him/her by performing it how they did.
Next is Parody, Parody is where it completely takes the mick out of another artist , A key example of that is Weird Al, and his parody I'm Fat , This is a parody of Michael Jackson I'm bad.
Next is Animation, Since I have used Clint Eastwood for impressionist I can't use it again so I will use Do The Evolution By Peal Jam
Next on the line is Lip Syncing, Now Lip syncing is very easy to do, you sign the song in a video and take away the audio, then replace it with the original song. For example Epic rap battles of history do it to their videos all the time.
After Lip Syncing is cutting to the beat, The music videos does what I'm saying, it cuts the video to the beat and they come out amazing. I couldn't find an example so I will use The White Stripes Hardest button to button.
Next is post production effects, They are effects that have been added after the video has been shot, My example is Katy Perry Fireworks as no normal person would have fireworks coming from their chest.
Next is chroma Key, An example for a music video with chroma key is Linkin park in the end, They use chroma key to put an image behind them but they are just in a studio using green screen
Next is Split screening , Split screening is a good way of telling a story because in the one I have chosen, Radio head all I need, the music video gives a narrative about two boys living completely different lives,
Lastly is Mise-En-Scene. Music videos make sure that the mise en scene fits the music video and for my example is Monster, By Eminem. The only reason I chose this song is because Eminem sticks to seeing his old music videos and how he is changing costume to fit into what part he is singing.

The Purpose of music videos
Intro
The era of music videos first started when Queen released a music video of Bohemian Rhapsody which was released in the year 1975, the same time Jaws was released. Being the first music video to be released with advanced video effects made the band even more popular then what they were already are and got them a lot more fans. The purpose of the essay is to look at why music videos exist and how they have gotten so popular in the last decade.
The promotion of artists is really easy to do in music videos because it is easy to put the bands name on the drum set, that is a way of promoting them in the music video but having the bands name isn't the only way to promote the band, Another way is how the band is portrayed for example ; The prodigy is a great band but the videos are insane, because
of the videos looking insane makes the band look like a bunch of crazy people which is the image they want.

For promoting the producers, that is easy for the producer to do it themselves. They get themselves promoted by making unique and one of a king music videos such as Michel Gondry, He has directed many music videos for bands such as; The White Stripes, The Chemical Brothers, The Vines, Sterogram and RadioHead.
The way artists are marketed is how the producers make viewers and fans see a unique side of them in music videos a good example is Lady Gaga, Lady Gaga is seen as a strange woman in her music videos for her costumes in the music videos and example of strange costumes is in the video Telephone she has cans of coca cola in her hair. Another way an artist is portrayed is by the way they grew up as it is reflected in Eminem's music videos for example he has a video about how he started his rapping carer and it is called loose yourself.

These artists can be seen on the television station MTV such artists as Arihana Grande and Brian Collins
A way that independent music artists can make it big and popular for an example Greyson Chance entered a talent contest at his school in 2010, his mother recorded it and he posted it to YouTube and in the following year in 2011 he released his first album called Hold on 'Til the Night.
Here is the video that got him famous
And this is Grayson on the Ellen De Generate Show.
Apart from being lucky from a talent contest , you may also not have much budget and have to be very careful when making your own music videos because you have no professional help. You may not have good effects to use but it doesn't matter, the only problem is trying to get views as 300 hours of footage is uploaded to YouTube every minute. But on the good side of things, you get to have full control over the video and you can't have anyone tell you how to set up the set and how to edit the video.
Self Produced Artists
A self produced artist or artists who made themselves famous on YouTube are Nicepeter and Epiclloyd, they both had their independent YouTube channels, Nicepeter played the guitar and sung for his video's and got quite popular with 2,706,545 views on his videos while Epiclloyd made rap videos and had 1,180,759 views but both youtubers had something in common so they joined together to make a new channel (while still running their individual channels) And this one was called Erb or Epic Rap Battles of History which is very popular online, most of kids these days love it, not only do you learn history about they two people rapping but its also humerus to watch them and see who they put against each other and Erb has 25,990,091 views just on one video.
Media platforms are used to promote yourself or bands/artists, Firstly a lot of celebrities use twitter and generally post to fans and silly things that make us laugh , The media platforms used where we can see what they post is Twitter and Facebook, it can be anything from being bored to how exited they are for a concert in a few days at a place . The other media outlet I can think of is Youtube,
Youtube is a great for uploading footage but just be careful because 300 hours of footage is uploaded every minute.
Here are the advantages and disadvantages.
The last thing is Synergy , Synergy is where during a media outlet or music video it promotes another media outlet such as a movie or advertising a drink. For example Linkin' Park made a music video for the second Transformers movie; Revenge of the fallen. The song is called new divide and it promotes transformers as it was filmed on the set of the movie and there is Megatron in the background

Below are the advantages and disadvantages to creating your own music video
Some artists like to show their artistic side with their music videos , the music videos will most likely be on M.T.V as they can censor any swear words and they play the music videos when they play a song and it would mean the music artist would be remembered for the masterpiece they created.
For example The band Aha - Take me on , the music video is brilliant because it switches between the real world and the comic universe
Extension of income
For extension of income I will be looking at how likely it is for less popular bands to be played on the radio and on M.T.V. I think it is hard for unpopular bands/artists because people like so many of the modern artists as they are constantly played on the radio and always have ad's on television and on the internet. For example a new song called I'm an Albatraoz has been a big hit on the radio and I have seen it play on MTV. I think the best way to make money for a new person is start on youtube and make sure you create a page on social media outlets to let people know that you are on youtube.
